The gift is a better tier.
An approved and provisioned Host or Institution order adds a balance that can only fund edition upgrades for other people. It is recognizable value with a destination, not a miniature speculative economy.
UPGRADE VALUE / REHEARSAL
A gift should
know where it is going.
This plans an upgrade; it does not reserve credit or contact anyone.
Choose the movement
Select the edition the recipient already owns and the higher edition they should receive. The reserved value is exactly the price difference between those two points on the ladder.
Gift credit cannot buy unrelated goods, pay the sender’s own upgrade, be withdrawn as cash, or produce another gift balance when claimed.
Share the claim
Affordable creates a private claim link. Add a recipient email for transactional delivery, or copy the link and deliver it yourself. Until it is claimed, the sender can revoke it and recover the reserved value.
The link expires after 90 days; expiration also returns the reserved amount. The underlying Host or Institution balance itself does not quietly expire.
Use only what is needed
A recipient signs in to existing Affordable access before claiming. If they are still on the selected starting edition, the full reserved upgrade applies.
If they have independently moved partway toward the destination, the gift completes only the remaining movement and returns the unused difference to the sender. If they are already at or above the destination, no value is consumed.
After the handoff
A valid claimed upgrade becomes the recipient’s edition access. It cannot be transferred, resold, or exchanged for cash. The sender sees the claim state, not the recipient’s private product activity.
A refund, dispute, fraud reversal or invalid source purchase can revoke dependent unclaimed or claimed value and any difference-only upgrade built on it. The ledger replays the valid chain and flags money that must go back rather than inventing access.
