The Reaction Vocabulary

Participants select from a reviewed set of nonverbal responses such as “felt that,” “good effort,” and “delightfully odd.” They may also choose no reaction; free text is never collected.

The study measures comprehension across languages and whether any symbol feels sarcastic, pressuring, or unclear. Ambiguous reactions are removed rather than explained through ever-longer tooltips.
